Traditional dominoes is a turn-based game in which players place tiles from their hand onto the playing field.
The objective may be to score points, block opponents, or collect specific tile combinations. The two most common types of domino games are draw and block; all others are modifications with different winning conditions.
Rules of classic dominoes for beginners
The simplest version of dominoes for beginners is the Block Game, which is played with a double-six set of 28 tiles that have all possible combinations of 0 and 6. Traditionally, a game of dominoes consists of several rounds, ending when one player reaches 100, 200, or 300 points.
In a blocking domino game, each player takes seven tiles without using the remaining dice. The first move is made with a double tile, which is a tile with the same number of dots on both halves. The round does not start from zero. If no one has a double, then the player with the highest total number of dots plays a tile.
Subsequent moves aim to alternately add to the chain on one of the two sides. A player who does not have an equivalent tile passes. The game ends when a player places the last tile on the table. That player receives the sum of their opponent’s remaining points. The winner of the block game is the player with the fewest points. Their score is determined by the difference in game points.
How to play Domino Draw Game
The peculiarity of Domino Draw Game is that a round of dominoes for two players begins with seven tiles being dealt to each player. If there are three or four players, five tiles are dealt to each player. The remaining 28 numbered tiles are set aside as a common reserve. Players must draw tiles from this reserve if they do not have a suitable move. Players must draw tiles one at a time from the boneyard (tiles turned face down) until they get the number they need.
The gameplay of Domino Draw Game is simple: players take turns laying out tiles one by one, building a chain so that the numbers on adjacent halves of the dominoes match. The first player to get rid of all their tiles wins. The winner’s score increases by the sum of the values of the opponents’ remaining tiles. To win the game, you must be the first to score the agreed number of points.
