In Captive Solitaire, the objective is to free the ace from its confinement by a block of six face-up cards. This problem can be easily solved using temporary storage cells. The real challenge comes when players must arrange cards of the same suit on the board to collect the entire deck in the foundation piles.

How to play
Similar to FreeCell, Captive Solitaire is played with a fully face-up deck. However, in Captive Solitaire, cards can be moved across the playing field in descending order by suit (without alternating colors) to fill the foundation piles in ascending order.
One distinctive feature of Captive Solitaire is the highest-ranking ace, which is always trapped in the top left corner beneath a stack of seven face-up cards. The other aces are in the foundation piles at the start of the game.
The goal is to sort the entire deck into four foundation piles by suit. Start with the lowest-ranking card, the ace, then continue with the two, three, and so on up to the highest, the king.
Rules of Captive Solitaire
- The foundation piles are filled in ascending order from lowest to highest rank.
- Any uncovered card can be moved to one of the seven free cells at the bottom of the screen. From there, it can be moved to either a foundation pile or one of the foundation piles according to the rules.
- Only kings or stacks of cards headed by a king can be moved into an empty column.
- During the sorting process, cards may be moved between stacks in descending suit order.
- Sorted sequences may be moved as a single card between stacks.
Right-click anywhere on the playing field to automatically move all eligible cards to the foundation.
What does the name of this solitaire game imply? The primary goal is obvious: free the ace of spades. However, this should be done strategically. Start by clearing the playing piles without overloading the storage spaces. Only empty a pile if you can move a king there.
