How to Play Backgammon Long Online
By default, you control the white checkers and take turns with an AI opponent. In PvP mode, two players play on an interactive board, which helps save time by instantly updating the board.
Click the ‘Roll Dice’ button. The result of the roll determines how many spaces you can move. You don’t need to know the rules of the game, as the board will highlight available spaces in green. Simply click on a piece to select it, then click on the square you want to move to.
How to play Backgammon Long (Classic)
The winner is the first player to remove all 15 of their checkers from the board. A player’s starting position is called the ‘head’; from there, players can remove one checker per turn. Opening exception: On the first roll of the game, players can remove two checkers. If the starting doubles are 3–3, 4–4 or 6–6, a double move is mandatory.
Both players move in the same direction (anticlockwise), with the white checkers heading towards the bottom right corner of the board and the red checkers towards the top left. The process of removing checkers begins once the entire group of 15 has reached the final opposite sector of the board (the home sector).
Each move is determined by rolling two dice, and players must follow the resulting numbers, subject to the game’s restrictions.
Rules of play
- A checker may be placed on an empty square, or on a square already occupied by one of your own checkers.
- The numbers rolled on the dice indicate two possible moves: moving two different checkers, or making a combined move with one checker. Important condition: any intermediate square must be empty.
- A player must use all the points rolled, prioritising the higher value. If it is technically possible to make only one of the two moves, the rules require the player to play the die with the higher number.
- If the dice show doubles (the same numbers), the number of available moves doubles (from two to four).
According to the generally accepted standards of backgammon, it is not permitted to form a continuous chain of six of your own checkers in a row unless there is at least one of your opponent’s checkers in front of that barrier. As long as you control a point with at least one of your checkers, your opponent cannot land there. For this reason, it is important to limit your opponent’s moves while advancing your own in order to clear the board first.
